As it becomes more popular and enters the mainstream, chances are that you have heard of Reiki. What was your reaction when you first learned about it? Were you skeptical, hesitant, or were you open to its healing possibilities?
Before I became acquainted with Reiki, I didn’t understand what it really was. But of course, that’s usually how it is for all of us. But then a friend or family member, maybe a stranger in passing, tells you about Reiki, or perhaps you read about it somewhere. And some people hear about it once and then let the thought go, forgetting they ever heard of it. However, others of us continue to cross paths with Reiki and feel beckoned by it, so we begin to listen. This was me.
My Reiki Journey
Before I began my journey to becoming a Reiki Master, I was going through several major life changes. I was in college and soon to graduate, going through a divorce, selling my home, relocating, raising a son, and trying to find my way. Needless to say, I was going through a spiritual awakening. And with this awakening, I would continue to encounter Reiki through conversations with others.
At first, I brushed it off. But later I thought, “Reiki seems interesting, maybe I can look into it someday.” That “someday” arrived when I talked to a woman in a crystal shop who told me Reiki can also be given to animals. I was instantly convinced, especially because I love animals of all kinds. After that day, I started listening to my inner voice and committed to a life-changing journey with Reiki, which eventually led me to become a Reiki Master. Now, with Reiki’s help, I support others on their own healing journeys.
What Is Reiki?
In a nutshell, Reiki is a Japanese, sacred energy healing technique discovered in 1922 by a Japanese man named Mikao Usui. After twenty-one days of fasting and prayer on Mount Kurama in Japan, Usui experienced his own spiritual awakening. His awakening revealed to him the spiritual energy of Reiki and its healing benefits. After his discovery, he trained others, and eventually, over time, Reiki spread throughout the world.
What Happens During a Reiki Session?
During a Reiki session, the Reiki practitioner has the client lie on a massage table or sit in a chair. The practitioner then places their hands on or above certain areas along the client’s body.
Sometimes, the use of crystals and music is also employed to amplify energy, but it is not necessary. Once the Reiki session begins, the client may feel warmth, coolness, tingling, or nothing at all. Reiki is an individualized journey, so what each client perceives will vary. And it is divinely guided by universal life force energy, so the Reiki practitioner serves only as a conduit. Once the session is over, the healing can truly begin.
Why Try Reiki?
Healing is a process that takes time, patience, silence, and reflection. Reiki has been such a beautiful gift in my own healing journey, and it can help support you as well. Reiki balances the physical, emotional, and spiritual selves on a much deeper level. It gently clears away any energetic blockages and creates a welcoming space for peace, clarity, and purpose to flow back into our hearts. So, even one session can be beneficial and uplifting. Longer-term sessions can ease physical pain from acute injuries or chronic conditions, bring comfort in times of grief, lessen medication side effects, boost energy, and give relief after cancer treatments – to name just a few.
So, whether you come for a single session or choose to walk your healing journey with me for the long term, Reiki has the power to be life-changing. So let us grow, release, and heal together.
